Coding agents: cache price matters more than input price

Quick math before picking a model or provider. An agent resends the whole session every turn. 100K context, 50 turns => 5M input tokens, almost all of it history you already sent. Claude Sonnet 5.5: $10 uncached vs $0.50 cached ($2 vs $0.10/M) DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, official API: $1.50 vs $0.03 ($0.30 vs $0.006/M, half that off-peak) 20x and 50x. The cache read price and your hit rate decide the bill, not the input price on the model page.
